The medical field can be a great place to seek a job, since it is consistently one of the fastest growing career paths in the United States. Those working in the medical profession often feel a great sense of accomplishment as they are able to provide patient benefits. Typically they will work directly with doctors, nurses, and other health care professionals within hospitals or private practice clinics. Since these offices are located just about everywhere, a person trained to work in health care will usually not have a problem finding a job.

Every person who is part of the health care team plays an integral role in patient care. From receptionists to medical assistants to nurses to physicians to those involved in the billing process, each will play a part in order to create the best experience. Over the next ten years, it is predicted that there will be 3 million new jobs in the field.

One great job possibility is a medical and coding consultant. These employees can be trained through technical schooling, which typically takes up to two years. There are additional certification programs that can be completed, which will often increase income potential. Some of these positions are done from home, so working parents might find this to be a great option. Others will work in a clinic setting, working directly with the doctors in order to ensure proper billing is completed.

Being a part of the health care experience is a rewarding place to work. Many people are foregoing other technical programs to become a member of a medical office team.

Understanding Culture to Treat Pain

People have difference levels of tolerance to pain and also have various manners in dealing with it. For a very long time now, educational curriculum of nurses teaches them to depend entirely on a patient’s statement. This is the reason why they can often fail to notice factors like a patient’s tone of voice or their expression in order to better identify the level of pain. Although a patient’s description of the level of pain that he or she is suffering from is a reliable source, there are far too many factors influencing a patient’s perception of pain for their statement to be considered conclusive.

One of the major influencers of the perception and approach of a patient towards pain is the culture that the person belongs to. Merely diagnosing the level of physical pain and providing relevant treatment is not sufficient for effectively managing pain and nurses need advanced pain management training and cultural awareness to know just how to deal with a patient who is in pain. Here are some of the points that will help nurses effectively manage pain:

  1. Pain doesn’t always need to be treated and can actually be prevented if a nurse knows the nature and level of pain as well as a patient’s tolerance to it.
  2. In several cultures, it considered a sign of weakness to display signs of pain which is why a patient may not report escalating pain to the health provider or even downplay the intensity.
  3. Having  a care giver who is aware of their cultures increases the level of comfort in a patient and help them describe the nature of pain more accurately.

The future

Did you know that the average life expectancy in America is 78 but for a child born in 2010 it’s expected to reach 100 years!

The average person in the workforce changes jobs every five to ten years and will change career (not just jobs but whole focus of their working life!) at least three times in their working life!

Quite staggering really, when you think of it.  I mean three times in the forty five year working life we will go through the whole rigmarole of choosing a new career and possibly even training for it, that includes the expense of studying for it and looking for jobs.

What if there was a way of finding a whole field that was so big that no matter what you wanted to do next you’d find an opening in that field!

Just take Nursing for example. On average it takes two or three years study to become a nurse. Most of us only think of the person who helps the Doctor on the wards, but the role is so much bigger than that!

Say after five or ten years you want to work with older people, well then there’s nurses who specialize in working with older people (called a geriatric nurse) or maybe you want to move to work in the community, or anything else, the sky’s really the limit, and that’s just nursing!

By the way all you need to study to become a nurse is a decent high school education! If you’ve got a college degree then all the better, but you’ll be studying for a degree when you do your training. Oh I need to note that the training is a lot of hands on hard work.

At dcsna.org they can help you find that profession where you can be learning every day for the rest of your life.

The profession of nursing can be compared to the work of a healing angel. After has cut, sewed and prescribed a medicine, it is the nurse who takes care of hundreds of patients like her own children. It is not a profession just for women; men too can be a part for this profession. Nurses give people medicine injections & etc. Nurses treat wounds and take care of the wounds. They also give emotional support to the family and patient by talking to them about the disease and explaining it. Nurses keep detailed records of patients by asking them about their symptoms.

There are different types of Nurses. Some nurses help doctors treat & examine the patients. They also keep an eye on patients for signs of sickness. Some nurses’ help in doing lab work to get the report of what is causing sickness in patients. They also teach patients how take care of themselves and their families. Nurses teach patients how to follow diets, exercises & how to follow doctor’s orders. Nurses can specialize in treating only a single type of patients or only on a type of disease or a problem. Few focus on helping doctors while surgery. Some work in I.C.U’s & emergency rooms. Nearly half of the nurses work in doctors’ offices, helping them with dressing a patients wound, give medicine & etc. Nurses working for doctors also do office work & help them out in labs. There are also a few on call nurses who care for a patient at the patient’s own home. These nurses provide the same care that is available at the hospital at the comfort of the patient’s home. A few nurses also assist in medical emergencies and are part of the ambulances. These nurses need to specialize in emergency procedures that will come handy to save lives on the way to a hospital.
