“Prevention” is a pretty big topic. There are a lot of medical issues that can be prevented, like heart disease, diabetes, weight gain, sexually transmitted diseases, and more. Since there is such a variety of things that can be prevented, there is a variety of careers directed toward helping people prevent them. The preventative medicine field is in demand. Here a few popular preventative careers.

Dietician / Nutritionist: Obesity, high cholesterol, and poor diet are real problems and are among the top preventable causes of death. Careers intended to help people make healthier food choices are likely to be in increasing demand as our waistlines grow.

Therapist: Alcoholism, STDs, and drug use are also among the top causes of preventable death. Sometimes, speaking with a therapist can help an addict or potential addict work through the psychological reasons that may turn them toward heavy drinking, drug use or promiscuity.

Physical Therapist: The number of people with arthritis or injuries that require therapy as part of recovery will help keep physical therapy positions in demand.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say that tobacco use is “the single most important preventable risk to human health…” and a World Health Organization report found that tobacco was the single greatest cause of preventable death. A variety of healthcare professionals and even hypnotists work in preventing tobacco-related deaths.

Hypertension, physical inactivity, traffic collisions, infectious diseases, and deaths involving firearms are all among the top causes of preventable death in the U.S. and around the world. Career fields from physical trainer to motivational speaker to police officer all work hard to prevent these problems.

The medical field can be a great place to seek a job, since it is consistently one of the fastest growing career paths in the United States. Those working in the medical profession often feel a great sense of accomplishment as they are able to provide patient benefits. Typically they will work directly with doctors, nurses, and other health care professionals within hospitals or private practice clinics. Since these offices are located just about everywhere, a person trained to work in health care will usually not have a problem finding a job.

Every person who is part of the health care team plays an integral role in patient care. From receptionists to medical assistants to nurses to physicians to those involved in the billing process, each will play a part in order to create the best experience. Over the next ten years, it is predicted that there will be 3 million new jobs in the field.

One great job possibility is a medical and coding consultant. These employees can be trained through technical schooling, which typically takes up to two years. There are additional certification programs that can be completed, which will often increase income potential. Some of these positions are done from home, so working parents might find this to be a great option. Others will work in a clinic setting, working directly with the doctors in order to ensure proper billing is completed.

Being a part of the health care experience is a rewarding place to work. Many people are foregoing other technical programs to become a member of a medical office team.

In the world of medicine a fairly new career option has been growing over the last decade, that of Physicians Assistant, or more simply, a PA.

Though not a “doctor” in the classical sense, particularly since their medical education is not as long or extensive as that of a doctor, a PA is nevertheless a healthcare professional who has been trained and is licensed to practice medicine – however they are limited according to the supervision of a licensed physician.

PAs are licensed to do many of the same professional duties generally performed by a physician, including, examinations, collecting medical histories, diagnose illnesses, prescribe medicine, order treatments, and refer patients to necessary specialists. There is a PA-Physician Practice Agreement which spells out exactly what the PA is allowed to legally do under the supervision of a physician. They are not allowed to go outside the scope of this document.

PAs are allowed to practice in any medical field and often specialize in areas of surgery. They often moved from one medical or surgical field to another during their careers, learning many different types of medical practices.

They have their own specific medical licenses which are different from those issued to physicians. They work under the authority of this license and not as an appendage to the supervising physician’s license.

Depending upon the state in which the PA practices medicine, there are some limits according to that state’s laws regarding the PAs ability to prescribe medication. These limits are imposed by the state through the Drug enforcement Administration. For example, PAs in Hawaii, Florida and Alabama are not allowed to prescribe any controlled substances at all.

How long have you been working as an RN? You graduated with an associate RN and have really enjoyed working in the acute care setting but are tired of pulling all night shifts, right? Maybe you have had some great supervisors, but now you would like to be one? Getting a BSN is now more and more necessary for any kind of administration position in nursing. This degree also helps if you want to step out into the world of private practice.

Being Competitive in Today’s Medical Field

Hospitals hire RNs to do the charge nursing and supervise. Those with BSN degrees find the positions of choice more easily. There is hope, however! Getting your BSN is easier than ever with convenient online RN to BSN degree programs. You can go to school and work at the same time.

Which Program Should You Choose?

There are many programs online now. You can find highly ranked RN to BSN programs through searching online. Talking to your fellow nurses can help you broaden your familiarity with programs offered as well. Maybe you want to broaden your nursing experience. Check for programs that offer classes in specific fields as part of your BSN degree.

RN Specialty Programs

If you have an area of nursing that you really enjoy or in which you are particularly proficient, you can earn a certificate of expertise for that area. By going into a specialty field, you can really decrease burnout and the wear-and-tear on your body!

It’s a shaky business — the medical field. And bad things happen all the time. Thankfully, you have some professionals out there that can work to the benefit of the patient who’s wronged somehow in the hospital, provided that the lawsuit is legitimate.

As one of the more higher skilled law practices in the industry, climbing the mountain to get to the top and become a full-fledged California medical malpractice attorney or Chicago medical malpractice attorney — or any city, for that matter — can be quite the adventure and a challenge, indeed. But here’s what you need to know:

Graduate from college with a major in pre-law or business.

Take the Law School Admission Test, or LSAT.

Score high!

After you’re phenomenal score is on paper, apply to as many law schools as possible.

Why? Because many law schools have extremely high standards.

When you finally find your law school, study for three years.

Apply for as many clerkships at medical malpractice law firms as possible.

Graduate from law school and then take (shudder!) the BAR EXAM.

Recognize that the BAR EXAM is in capital letters, because this is the one test that will kill your brain.

After reviving your brain from the apparent terror of the BAR EXAM, find a firm to work for.

Pursue board certification, and guess what — you’re good to go!

It sounds pretty cut and dry — but just recognize that it’s a lot to do. If you’ve got the perseverance and strength for it, though, go for it. It’s a prestigious line of work. It has to be, though, with this list of requirements!

The medical field is a very recognized, respected profession. It is also one of professions in our society that requires large amounts of training and education. If you have decided to enter the medical profession or advance your current medical training, you will find that it will take years of school and thousands of dollars. How will you pay for this new endeavor?

One of the avenues that may be worthwhile to explore is refinancing your auto loan. Car refinance is a relatively easy process and usually doesn’t require a lot of paperwork or time. There are many advantages to refinancing an auto loan.

One of the advantages is that depending on the amount of the loan and the amount of principal the consumer has paid off, the original payment can be reduced by a significant amount. This can be achieved by lengthening the original loan or achieving a lower interest rate of the life of the loan.

When refinancing, it is also possible to combine payments and write one convenient check. If the consumer has two auto loans there is a chance the two loans could be combined for one easy payment. The payment may also be less than the original two payments. Refinancing on multiple vehicles also usually results in paying less interest due to the fact the debt is reduced to one note instead of two. This can result in significant savings to the consumer.

Paying for higher education can be costly and an auto loan refinance may be the way to do it!

Image via Wikipedia

People have difference levels of tolerance to pain and also have various manners in dealing with it. For a very long time now, educational curriculum of nurses teaches them to depend entirely on a patient’s statement. This is the reason why they can often fail to notice factors like a patient’s tone of voice or their expression in order to better identify the level of pain. Although a patient’s description of the level of pain that he or she is suffering from is a reliable source, there are far too many factors influencing a patient’s perception of pain for their statement to be considered conclusive.

One of the major influencers of the perception and approach of a patient towards pain is the culture that the person belongs to. Merely diagnosing the level of physical pain and providing relevant treatment is not sufficient for effectively managing pain and nurses need advanced pain management training and cultural awareness to know just how to deal with a patient who is in pain. Here are some of the points that will help nurses effectively manage pain:

Pain doesn’t always need to be treated and can actually be prevented if a nurse knows the nature and level of pain as well as a patient’s tolerance to it.

In several cultures, it considered a sign of weakness to display signs of pain which is why a patient may not report escalating pain to the health provider or even downplay the intensity.

Having a care giver who is aware of their cultures increases the level of comfort in a patient and help them describe the nature of pain more accurately.

How to Get Started

Most of the career choices individuals make will center on getting a degree. While some careers do allow you to enter with just an associate’s degree, others focus on bachelor’s degrees or higher. You can find specific degree options at EarnMyDegree.com.

A home health aide is a person who comes to a person’s home to provide services, including basic medical care or just companionship. To get started, you will need at least an associate’s degree.

Another career choice to consider is a certified nursing or medical assistant. This position will provide you with outstanding opportunities to get started in various careers in the medical area. This is a good way to get into many of the health care jobs in demand.

Medical transcription is another area to get started in, especially if you want to work into a career that does not require direct interaction with patients. You will need to get basic training and a certification to enter into this career choice.

Other types of careers in the medical field that may be a good place to start include massage therapy, medical secretary positions and dental assisting. Many people also can learn to do entry-level positions such as physical therapy assistant and occupational therapy assistant through a two-year program as well. Once you’ve decided on the right position, you just need to choose the right program.

There are many more potential medical students than available spaces at medical schools in the US, so applying for medical education can be daunting.

Medical schools in the US do not have sufficient capacity in order to train the numbers of doctors needed due to the growing and aging population. There is certainly no shortage of students with sufficient intelligence and the desire to train at medical school, but the educational system is simply not capable of providing enough places for them. It has been reported that in 2006 alone, there was 400,000 applicants chasing 14,000 available places. This is one of the reasons why so many foreign medical graduates are employed in the US each year, despite many US citizens being denied the opportunity to train.

The medical profession is pretty diverse, and there are many different routes and pathways which can be followed. Many doctors choose to work in occupational medicine (within a firm or company), pharmaceutical research, join the armed forces or in public health medicine. All of the doctors who specialize in these fields though, generally have the same start on the medical education ladder.

Medical School

To apply for medical school in the US, you generally need to already have a four year bachelor’s degree although there are rare exceptions. This should be from an accredited university or college. You will actually attend the medical school on a four year graduate course. The criteria for admission will vary, although, as mentioned above, there is lots of competition with many applicants chasing very few places, so the medical schools really are able to pick the cream of the crop and top qualifications are generally necessary in order to secure a place.

Many US medical students are now opting to study at medical schools in other countries. This can be the ideal solution for some students, and although it means that they will have to pay full fees, very often the medical education is actually cheaper in other countries than in the US.

Due to organizations such as IHMEC (International Health and Medical Education Center) there is a global policy which ensures that the qualifications needed to practice medicine anywhere in the world are recognized and achievable. You may find that applying for medical education in a foreign country can be more affordable, with a higher chance of acceptance than by trying to attend a medical school in the US.

The world of medicine has long been an area of appeal for centuries. Since the 1980s, the number of professionals working within the restorative field has steadily grown. While many look for jobs based upon general interest and income potential, many people are increasingly concerned.

Doctors have a right to receive payment for services rendered, but health insurance claims may take a while to be processed. Malpractice insurance is a requirement nationwide for things such as experimental surgery and new prescription drugs on the market. It is mandatory for all medical personnel to have such insurance in place for any extenuating circumstances that can arise. With this in mind, it’s often an expensive price that takes a chunk out of their salary.

Patient benefits also seem to be costly to both consumers and medical staff members alike. Some suffer in silence with ailments when insurance companies deny insurance applications-and there are still cases resulting in refusal for coverage. This is worrisome for perspective patients and people working in medicinal fields. Medical professionals urge people to keep trying to find an insurance carrier. Some carriers cannot deny coverage by law. Health insurance benefits can withdrawal an exorbitant amount of money from paychecks, but if we pay out-of-pocket its impact may be far greater on our wallets regardless of personal wealth.

Everything in our lives has pros and cons, but the fact remains that many consumers search far and wide for medical expertise whenever we need it. Although we may already feel comfortable with our family physicians and specialists, some of us need to get in the habit of seeking a second opinion before we make decisions.

Did you know that the average life expectancy in America is 78 but for a child born in 2010 it’s expected to reach 100 years!

The average person in the workforce changes jobs every five to ten years and will change career (not just jobs but whole focus of their working life!) at least three times in their working life!

Quite staggering really, when you think of it. I mean three times in the forty five year working life we will go through the whole rigmarole of choosing a new career and possibly even training for it, that includes the expense of studying for it and looking for jobs.

What if there was a way of finding a whole field that was so big that no matter what you wanted to do next you’d find an opening in that field!

Just take Nursing for example. On average it takes two or three years study to become a nurse. Most of us only think of the person who helps the Doctor on the wards, but the role is so much bigger than that!

Say after five or ten years you want to work with older people, well then there’s nurses who specialize in working with older people (called a geriatric nurse) or maybe you want to move to work in the community, or anything else, the sky’s really the limit, and that’s just nursing!

By the way all you need to study to become a nurse is a decent high school education! If you’ve got a college degree then all the better, but you’ll be studying for a degree when you do your training. Oh I need to note that the training is a lot of hands on hard work.

At dcsna.org they can help you find that profession where you can be learning every day for the rest of your life.

So, the economy is in the toilet! and doesn’t seem to want to come out of it! People who thought that their jobs were safe have lost them and have no idea how they are even going to make the next bill payment let alone find a new job!

Are you one in that situation? Are you one who doesn’t know how yu are going to cope? Maybe looking to do something about it but don’t know what?

Did you know that there is an industry that is still growing? Yes, even in a recession! I’m not talking of the Defence industries although they always do well. But did you know that even in a recession the Government will only spend three percent of it’s Budget on defence!

No the industry I’m talking of takes up about ten percent of government spending. Believe it or not I’m talking about the Healthcare industry!

Yes it is an industry!and it’s one that will always be a growth industry! The Medical Field is constantly growing as the professionals (Doctors, Nurses and Scientists) push the boundaries of science that bring tremendous patient benefits that filters down from the research labs to Hospitals, clinics and even to private practice.

At dcsna.org you’ll find all this and more as you look into a truly worthwhile career. One that can guarantee that there will always be a job in your field. One that can even allow you to travel the world (how many Auto workers can move to another country and be guaranteed to find a job) at the same time as following your dream and working in the Hospital or clinic of your choice.

Medical Insurance For People: Pet Insurance For Pets

With testimonials on pet health insurance, you can make sure you’re not paying a cent more than you have to. This is going to save you a lot of money when you’re trying to pay down medical school and all of the bills that come along with being a medical professional. All of those dollars you save will help you to get past the $200,000 bill and start being able to eat more than just ramen noodles in a dirty bowl that you can’t afford to wash.

Paying for medical education can be costly but there are some options which are definitely worth considering.

In order to pursue a career as a doctor you will need to study for many years of college or university education. Student loans are often available to help with the extremely high tuition fees needed to attend medical school (not to mention books, accommodation etc) and it is no surprise that many young doctors spend their first years working just to pay off their students loans. This could also account for the lack of ‘new blood’ entering the lower paid positions (family practice or pediatrics) with so much debts to be repaid they need to be earning as much as possible, and quickly.

There are, however, other options which you may find available to you for financing your way through medical school. They’re definitely worth checking out (unless you were lucky enough to be born to filthy rich parents).

Scholarships

You don’t always have to be top of the class to be chosen for a scholarship (although it would generally help). Scholarships are sometimes offered for different reasons, other than academic performance, and you may find that you can apply for a scholarship due to field of study or even minority status. You may also find that scholarships are offered by other organizations, other than the actual medical school. Check out the local corporations and organizations in your area, do a bit of digging, you never know what you might unearth.

Awards and Grants

Lots of universities and medical schools have awards which they offer for different criteria. You may find that you are eligible for an award because of your grades, volunteer work, athletic prowess or some other reason. These do vary a lot between the different universities and medical schools and are definitely worth checking out.

The Military

If you’re interested in a career in the armed forces, this may be just the ticket to pay for your medical education. Generally speaking, your health education and training will be paid for, in return for you serving your country for an agreed numbers of years. The longer you sign up for, the more education you can receive. Not a bad trade if it’s your sort of thing.

The U.S. Health Service Corps

If you want to follow a career as a physician or a nurse, this government program will fund a large part of your medical education in return for a number of years working in an underserved community or area. If you’re the kind of person who wouldn’t mind being relocated to a rural or under developed area for a few years, check out this option, it could be just what you need to fund your medical education.

Reimbursement by Employer

If you have had to fund your years at medical school with a student loan and ended up heavily in debt, there may be a way for you to get help in repaying the loan. When employed by some hospitals, you may find that they offer some student loan forgiveness as a part of their financial remuneration package. If you’re already up to your ears in debt and looking for employment, it’s definitely an option worth considering.

Do you know what the difference is between a dream and a goal? Yes there is a difference and it’s something to remember when you look at your dreams and try to see if they’ll ever become goals!

A goal is a dream with a deadline! That’s the only difference! Why? well because a dream is something we would like to achieve or someone we would like to become, but a goal says ‘By this date I will have achieved this’ and puts a date on when you will get there.

When I was a kid my dream was to be a Policeman, I never turned it into a goal. I never set a date and became one! Many of us had a dream of working in the Medical Field. especially as a Doctor or Nurse but haven’t really done that much more about it?

Now is the time. Time to stop putting it off and make that move, there is a website that can help you with it.

At dcsna.org you can find all the information you need to help you with the planning of turning that dream into a goal. Not only that but you can get a sneak peak into what it will be like working in that dream profession that you want.

By the way, for all those who think that the Medical Field is all about doctors and Nurses, well you couldn’t be more wrong! Did you know that there are at least a hundred professions/careers that are needed on a daily basis by any given hospital! Everyone from Doctors to Dispatchers, Chefs to Cleaners! to name a few!

Get the idea. Don’t let your dream die! turn it into a goal!

I enjoy a good Medical drama! Even better if it’s a bit of a comedy. At the moment the two main ones playing on my TV are House and Scrubs! Two totally opposite types of drama.

It’s probably the English in me that prefers House to the others, or maybe it’s that the main Character is so good at what he does (Both curing the sick and driving the other Doctors crazy!)

But I ask myself, If I got sick, whom would I want to treat me? (scrubs loses out big time here) I’d probably opt for the skill set of House but hope and pray that the Doctor was somewhat better with his or her people skills!

Actually I’d probably opt for someone like Dr Carter from ER. (Yes, those kind of people do exist!) But as for Hospitals, well maybe Johns Hopkins might be nice (Hey we can all dream!).

The Medical Field is huge, there are all kinds of establishments in it, from the Big five hundred bed hospitals to the three or four bed private clinics.

But how do you know if you are working in the best place for your skill set? Well at dcsna.org there is everything you need to know about Careers and advancements. they can also tell you about patient benefits at each of the places and what is available in your career path (an Oncologist working in a Cardiac unit may not e the best fit! But maybe they require one)

What about those who just want to get away from the rat race and might be looking for that special place that the heart can call Home. Well they aren’t all in ‘places foriegn and strange’ like the Midwest or Alaska. They can be found there as well. So log on and have a look at what’s there! You’ll be amazed at what you’ll find!

So, The President has got his agenda of free healthacre for all! Every American is going to be super healthy from now on and the State is going to pay for it! Or are they?

Some of the people arguing for the other way (Keep it in private hands) argued that it was the death knell for the Healthcare industry in America! Neither of them are really true!

What is happening is a huge growth in the whole area with many careers opening up, but just as important is the fact that patient benefits will be significant!

Now instead of having huge bills when you have an accident you’ll be able to get the emergency care you need for free instead of huge Ambulance bills and bills from the Emergency Room that treated you. But don’t throw away the Insurance policy just yet!

The fact is that even in countries where they’ve had ‘free healthcare’ for years they also have something else! WAITING LISTS! people who need surgery but it’s not life threatening often have to wait months if not years to get onto a waiting list and then wait months for the operation only to have it cancelled at the last minute and back to the list you go!

At dcsna.org the latest information on careers in the Medical field and especially the details about both Hospitals and private clinics is all there. they can help you with finding the place that’s best for you and with advancing your career.

Don’t wait around for this. As the Ad says Just do it

Six months after college, most nursing graduates receive the shock of their lives—their first student loan bill. This sticker shock creates quite a rush of adrenaline, stress, and sometimes a sudden burst of anxiety. There are things that college students can do to help alleviate some of this pressure.

The first and primary thing to do is to plan. Planning can help students prepare for the first bill, and could help them stay aware of where they are financially, by making them aware of how much they are taking in student loans. This is important because many students are given more money that what is needed for college, and instead of returning it, they spend it. This all has to be paid back, and the extra money is adding to the overall bill.

So how does the repayment process work? First, students are allowed a time of deferment after graduation. This means that there are no payments that need to be made on the student loan amounts, and this time lasts for six months. The first step is to begin searching diligently for employment to help pay for the loans when the first bill comes in.

Along with this step it is imperative that students and graduates alike begin to budget. Budgeting will allow them to easily incorporate the amount of the student loan payment into their monthly financial schedule. When there is an easy to follow budget, it makes spending much easier as there are clear spending limits for different things. For instance, a budget can be established for necessary bills, including student loans, and with that a budget can be set for spending money that is entertainment, or extra. The final step is to investigate a debt consolidation service. This will help combine all the loans into one, which can drastically lower monthly payments.

As a medical student, you’re probably eyeing the five major medical specialties warily. Which one is right for you? Which one will make you the happiest? Which one is the most competitive? Which pays the best? The five main specialties are all different, though some are more alike than others (for example, pediatrics often mirrors internal medicine, just with children as a target patient group), and some are radically different (surgery and psychiatry, for example). Psychiatry is the most unknown specialty of all the specialties. While there are certainly ailments and diseases that remain a mystery in modern medicine, psychiatry is the biggest uncharted territory in the modern medical field. We’ve charted our genes, our anatomy, our internal systems. The one thing humans haven’t been able to fully understand is the human brain. Psychiatry attempts to study and help this complicated organ.

Psychiatry is the youngest of all the professions. Psychiatry is a perfect choice for medical students who are fascinated by the workings and manifestations of the human brain. A general desire to help people in mental distress is also helpful. Psychiatrists should not be intimidated by the lack of standardization in the psychiatric profession; rather, they should enjoy the great variety that the profession offers. No patient will arrive at the office with the same problem. While in medicine, an infection mostly looks the same in every patient and is generally treated the same way, psychiatric patients come with a range of different backgrounds, beliefs, childhoods, and emotional spectrums. There is no set of hard and fast rules in psychiatry.

When compared to some other major specialties, psychiatry is not a high-paying profession, nor is it a very competitive one. However, there are many subspecialties within psychiatry that may be more high-paying or stressful than others. Some subspecialties of psychiatry include forensic psychiatry, adolescent psychiatry, research, etc.

Pet Health and International Medical Education

All around the world, people have pets they want to take care of. And while it might seem that all vets are trained alike in pet health, this isn’t always the case. In order to make sure your animal will get the right medical care, no matter where you might be, it’s a good idea to check up on local vets before you visit an area, just to make sure they’ve been trained in more than just petting your animal and giving them pain medication.

The fundamental basics of international medical education are essential for the efficiency and proficiency of medical centers which employ globally trained medical staff.

In professions such as medicine, it is essential that there are rules and guidelines set up for the basics of international medical education, to ensure satisfactory medical treatment from hospitals anywhere in the world. The world is getting smaller, and as such the profession has witnessed more and more medical students relocate after receiving their medical education, or choose to train in a country different from their country of origin. At a time when countries such as the US are suffering a shortage of trained medical staff to cope with the ever increasing and aging population, it is vital that medical students from different countries are suitably qualified to bridge the gap in the number of medical staff needed.

Basic Requirements for International Medical Education

The following list is the very minimum needed in order to fully function in any medical center around the world.

A basic scientific foundation of medicine

A professional attitude, values, ethics and behavior

Competency in clinical skills

Competent in communication and language skills

Population health and health systems

Information management skills

Research and critical thinking skills

IHMEC also offer students the necessary information and possibilities to:

Provide the students with a knowledge and understanding of international health, and inform them of opportunities to gain the necessary experience and develop interests in their particular field of study.

Study the different global health problems and systems to educate doctors to be responsive and flexible to patients from all backgrounds.

Produce and source resources and provide support to be instrumental in teaching medical students all about International Health and the difference challenges it faces.

Raise the awareness of the medical profession to the importance of having doctors and medical staff who are trained with a multicultural perspective on global health and healthcare.

Provide opportunities for already qualified doctors to explore international health issues and help them to understand the relevance of the international health policy.

If you’re in medical school, chances are you’re eyeing one of the five major specialties you’ll be going into after you graduate medical school. The five major specialties are internal medicine, surgery, psychiatry, family medicine, and pediatrics. Generally, internal medicine and surgery are more hospital-based, whereas family medicine and pediatrics are more office-based and psychiatry is a blend of both. Of course, there are exceptions to every rule; internal medicine specialists may very well work in a non-hospital office, for example. This article will give you some general facts and information about two of these specialties: family medicine and pediatrics.

1.) Family Medicine.
Family medicine is a primarily office-based and ambulatory profession. This profession deals with basic medical needs of the general population. This can include pediatrics, adults, and geriatrics. It’s a more generalized, less specialized profession that can make educated referrals to specialists when health problems fall outside their range of expertise. In addition, family medicine physicians manage all health care received by their respective patients. The benefits of family medicine include a stronger rapport and relationships with their patients than doctors in more specialized professions experience. Additionally, they don’t have call and may experience a better work-life balance than a physician in a more high-stress medical specialty. However, family medicine is currently experiencing a financial struggle brought on by the reimbursement system of insurance companies and many students may be unsatisfied with current family medical salaries in comparison to their student loan debt.

2.) Pediatrics.
Pediatrics parallels internal medicine, but with a completely different patient population. Pediatrics professionals specialize in the health concerns of children or young adults. Their respective sub-specialties can be in any specialty in medicine applicable to children, from oncology to rheumatology. Obviously, pediatrics professionals should enjoy working with young people and be able to communicate effectively with parents, particularly parents who are worried and oftentimes irrational.

To become an M.D., your career doesn’t end with “becoming a doctor.” There are five major specialties to choose between. Chances are, you will select one of these five major specialties in your fourth year of medical school in order to begin applying to residency programs in your specialty of choice. Don’t stress too much if you’re just starting out. You’ll have the opportunity to sample each of the five specialties so you can choose what’s right for you. Here are some basic facts and information about two of the most hospital-based specialties, surgery and internal medicine.

1.) Surgery.
Surgery is a highly competitive field that certainly isn’t for everyone. Surgery involves highly precise procedures, early hours, constant call, but is a relatively high-paying profession. Most people go on to specialize in order to become more proficient in a smaller number of procedures (heart surgeon, brain surgeon, etc). Surgery tends to be a very demanding and fast-paced profession that is never dull. Some doctors prefer surgery as a specialty because it’s a hands-on, technical profession that keeps them physically active and challenged. Medical students need to have done very well in anatomy and their surgery clerkship in order to consider a career in surgery.

2.) Internal Medicine.
Internal medicine is a hospital-based profession for complex adult medical care. Some sub-specialties of internal medicine can be incredibly competitive (cardiology, gastroneurology, etc.) Internal medicine is a diverse specialty that varies greatly based on which sub-specialty you choose. Certain sub-specialties have strenuous call schedules and difficult cases, whereas others follow more of a “9 to 5” schedule or act on a consultant basis. While internal medicine tends not to be as “hands on” as surgery, some consider internal medicine more mentally challenging and stimulating. Medical students must have done well in their internal medicine rotations and have strong letters of recommendation from their internal medicine advisors in order to do well in an internal medicine residency.

You may have seen the commercials about erectile dysfunction drugs, such as Cialis, Viagra, and Levitra (the three most common ones), but you may still have some questions about them. While you can always do your own research, if you’re like most people, sometimes you like to just have a resource that gives you a few questions and answers—perhaps some of the more common ones, as well as a few that you just want to know for your own curiosity.

For example, you may be wondering if erectile dysfunction drugs are new or if they’ve been around for a while. Viagra was the first erectile dysfunction drug to be introduced, and the year was 1998. The year 2003 saw the introduction of both Cialis and Levitra. So, as medications go, these drugs are still rather new.

On the commercials, they give you the side effects. However, many times, the voice-over announcer rattles them off so fast that you only catch a few, and these are usually the more serious ones. So, you may be wondering what side effects, if any, erectile dysfunction drugs may have.

Some of the more common side effects of tadalafil, which is the medication in Cialis, include headache, indigestion, back pain, muscle aches, flushing, and stuffy or runny nose. The back pain and muscle aches may not come on immediately; rather, if they are going to occur, they will do so within 12 to 24 hours of taking the medication.

There is one serious side effect that is indicative of all three types of erectile dysfunction products. That is an erection that lasts more than four hours. Yeah, yeah, go ahead and say what you’re thinking: this is a problem, how? Well, it is. Ischemic priapism (the proper name for it) can actually cause permanent damage because it cuts off the oxygen supply to the penis, which can cause scar tissue.

When you’re a fourth year medical student thinking about your upcoming residency interviews, you’re probably focusing on the pressure to perform well. You’re planning your schedule. You’re reading up on tips for interviews or potential interview questions. You’re researching the programs you’re interviewing at. All of these things are important things to concern yourself with when you’re planning these trips. Yet you’re forgetting one thing: money.

Money should be the last thing on your mind with all of these other concerns. Planning trips and hotel stays can be extremely costly if you’re not careful about it. Think about it: you’ll have constant food expenses and hotel room stays, dry cleaning bills for your interview clothes, child care or kennel fees, and numerous transportation concerns. Are you going to drive? Fly? Take the train? Which hotel are you going to stay at? When do you need to leave? Before you get all stressed out about these impending details and travel concerns, don’t fret. These tips can help you reduce cost and stress while you’re traveling for your residency interviews.

Bring your own food. Bread and lunch meat make excellent on-the-road meals that are easy to transport and keep cold with hotel ice. If you think to bring some aluminum foil or parchment paper, you can make toasted sandwiches with the hotel iron by wrapping your sandwich in the foil or paper and then pressing the sandwich. Don’t forget that you can make anything with hot water using the coffee maker in the room. Think oatmeal, Stove Top (bring butter), or condensed soup. If you’re a foodie who can’t bear to think of visiting a city and not sampling the local cuisine, at the very least bring your own beverages to the hotel to avoid $3 vending machine drinks.

Utilize cheaper hotels. Budget chains like Best Western or La Quinta Inn provide all the necessities (coffee maker, iron, wake up calls, free internet) and offer free breakfasts to guests. Many higher-priced hotels make guests pay for breakfasts, internet, or both. Ask for a quiet room when you make your reservation.

Are you a fourth year medical student about to embark on your residency interviews? Don’t fret too much. A little preparation and planning will go a long way in making sure you have the best residency interviews possible. Remember, how you perform on your residency interviews will affect where you learn, work, and live for the next few years. Take this time of your life seriously.

Take Time Off

If your course schedule allows it, take time off for your interviews. You’ll be a lot less stressed and (budget permitting) you can spend more time in each city. While the residency program should be your focus, you also need to consider where you’ll be living. If you’re a country girl and you adore the Beth Israel residency program, you need to spend a significant amount of time in New York City before you can determine if you could live there. Schedules permitting, plan your interviews with plenty of time between each city. No one performs well after back-to-back traveling and interviewing. Don’t bring that stress upon yourself.

Arrive in Town Early

Don’t plan on rolling in at midnight the night before you interview, even if you have back-to-back interviews. Arrive early so you can unpack, get dinner, and unwind. Another option is to arrive in town a day early. Since interview season takes place in the winter, you’ll be able to cushion your trip for flight delays or inclimate driving conditions.

The Evening Before Your Interview

Make sure you go to bed early. As tempting as it may be to experience the local nightlife (after all, you may be living there someday), don’t. Have a quiet evening. Go out to dinner or see a show, but be in bed early. Many residents use internet resources like TripAdvisor, Urbanspoon, or Yelp in order to find the best takeout in the area and order that on the night before their residency interviews. You’ll still be getting a taste of the area, but you can use the night before to prepare your dress clothes (shoe shine, lint roller, etc.) for the morning.

When you go to a hospital or care center you are usually treated by a doctor, but more than likely your patient needs are more commonly met by the nurse in attendance at the time of your visit or stay. There are many people who are unaware that the nurses attending you may not even from the area you are in. These nurses are known as traveling nurses and they make up almost 10 percent of the nursing population. That may seem low but when you consider how far they travel it is significant. This is a typically unknown segment of the health care profession that is often times neglected.

Traveling nurses are just what the name implies — they travel to work as nurses. At times this can be within their home state, but other times they travel great distance for long periods of time to do the profession they love. Traveling nurses can acquire contracts with hospitals and clinics around the United States and around the world. Traveling nurses are required to have at least one year of specialty training in their area of expertise.

A typical travel nurse contract is from 13 weeks or three months to one or two years depending on the location. Often times these assignments make it hard on the family of these nurses. As anyone who has moved can attest that moving is hard work and dealing with everything from moving quotes, packing, unpacking and loneliness can be stressful. All these factors, on top of having to adjust to a new work environment in a very short period of time and be able to perform, can be intimidating.

So next time you are being cared for remember that the person who is attending you and seeing to your care is also an individual who may need some help and care themselves.

If you’re a fourth year medical student, you’re no doubt getting ready for interview season. Don’t blow these interviews off: how you do will determine where, how, and with whom you’ll spend the next few years of your life with. Your residency is a huge step in your path to becoming a doctor.

It’s Not All Fun and Games…

Maybe you’re looking forward to these interviews. It’s an excuse to travel, right? While your residency interviews will indeed take you to a variety of different and exciting places, don’t get this trip confused with a vacation. Is it a getaway? Strictly speaking, yes. It is. However, you need to think of this as a business trip. While you may have time to eat at one of the city’s top restaurants, you will not have the leisurely experience of a vacation. You’ll be getting up early. You’ll be coming home from your interview exhausted. The last thing you’ll want to do after your interview is go on an intense exploration of the town you’re in. While you may go out and explore, you’ll probably just want to take a nap.

You may be dreading the upcoming interview season for the money, time, and stress it will require. Don’t be too stressed about the experience. Your interviewers recognize how hard the interview season is. You can still prepare yourself ahead of time to ensure you’ll have the best possible interview experience.

…But There IS a Game Involved

Residency interviews are like a twisted form of courtship. You want to show off your skills, experience, and personality in order to sell yourself to the residency program. The residency program is trying to show off its research opportunities, money, and technology (among a thousand other things) in order to sell itself to you. Yes, the residency program sells itself. It wants to attract the best doctors. It also wants to get an idea of the best and brightest doctors who will also rank the residency program highly. Why should the Harvard program throw away its top spot on someone dead-set on going to Yale?

There are ways that you can expedite your training in a profession in the medical field. One of the newest ways that many school have begun to adopt is using experience for credits. This means that if you worked as a Candy Stripe, or another type of volunteer,in a hospital for two years, you could have the possibility of not taking certain classes. The type of classes that are eliminated off their educational plan may be something like an English class, or a basic math class. Some of the harder and more difficult classes that many students see taken off of their program would be classes concerning procedures, or basic policy classes concerning the specific type of field you are seeking to complete. This would make sense because if you already worked in a hospital for two years, volunteer or not, you will have a pretty grasp on what the basic policies and procedures are, and a solid understanding of basic legal terminology.

This has been a recent change in many colleges, universities, and vocational programs. It comes on the wave of changing schooling credit to instead reflecting grade point average, rather they are gearing towards showing mastery and competency. Thus the experience for credit, because your experience has already shown a level of mastery on the particular topic that is being waved on your program. This has helped expedite your training program so that you can get out and begin to work in your area as a certified employee. This also benefits the school because they are able to send competent students into the work place. Student successes provide the school a good reputation. The other benefit is the cost benefit. Most schools charger per credit that is taken in course work. If you are able to waive certain amounts of credits, then you do not have to pay for them.

If you have completed a certification program, have received a degree or diploma for your training the medical, but are struggling to find a job placement, there is hope. Many counties have an Employment Development Agency that can help you find work in the area of expertise that you have gained licensures for. These agencies are in place to help professionals like you, that have expertise and certification become a part of the community. Many times, these types of placements can lead to work with the county, or some type of government level employment. This could mean schools, county health departments, or even the prison system. Many people do not realize how much these types of placements can pay, and they also offer pensions and benefits while working there.

If you are waiting for a help wanted to sign to steer you in the right direction, you will be looking for a long time. For job placement help, plan on being proactive in finding a place to work. This could mean hitting the streets and located specific offices for your specialty, and seeing if they would be willing to sponsor you for a placement. This is also a good move because many places are inspired and usually feel more confident when they see that someone is willing be independent on achieving this aspect of their education.

Most schools and programs, however, do offere placement assistance. If you were to call and speak to your licensure office, they usually have people who are staffed to find placements for students. These people are usually connected to businesses somehow, and they coordinate through the business development office to help get students placed so that they can finish their certification process and begin working. For you, this could mean an easy way to an internship, and a clear pathway to completing your desired program.

There are many options for people that are striving to have a career in medicine. Costs associated with a PhD program can cost as much as $200,000 dollars. For the everyday person this is an insane dollar figure. For many Doctors that are in hospitals, or regular primary care office, they have these costs compiled into student loans. This could mean an average monthly payment of nearly $2,400 dollars per month. The expectation of these costs can be almost enough to deter someone from entering the field. However, there are ways to receive help in programs that are much like what is offered teachers. There is a bill that has helped public servants, teachers and doctors, pay off their student loans, and begin to capitalize on their income based on their education.

Title I grants have allowed many new graduates work in low income areas for a certain amount of time, and qualify for government subsistence with their education loans. An area that qualifies a low income would an area that has a certain range of socio-economic status, or a certain rate of crime. The hospitals that are ranked Title I pay less than other hospitals, but the trade off is that you are usually working in a facility with other bright minds, with good equipment, and this can usually be done immediately after your residency is completed. This means that if you were to take advantage of your Title I opportunity, you could have completed your qualifying time limit only 24 months post graduation. For many medical students this a chance of a lifetime.

The Title I grant usually requires a 24-36 month contract, and the entitlement after completion for Doctors is nearly half of the unsubsidized or Staffard loans forgiven. That cuts that $2,400 dollar payment to a manageable $1, 200 dollar payment, and that is for 10 years.

Being placed for an internship is a great resource for students. This means that the headache of trying to find an institution that will simply let you train there is alleviated. For you this could be the place for your future career. As a student you have some say in where you will go for your placement, and this is important because you want to find somewhere that can offer you some potential, either in the form of a future job, or in the form of a recommendation. Before agreeing to your placement, research the facility and make a decision based on what you see and on employee interviews. This will give you insight on whether or not the office that is under consideration can meet your needs. During your interviews, you can determine if the office is hiring, has it hired recently, and are the employees happy with where they work. These are key questions, as they can mean the difference in your career.

Depending on the program that you have enrolled in, and the level of certification you will receive, there is a possibility that you can numerous options provided to you. For instance, many LVN or CNA positions can be at either a primary care physicians office, or a placement can be with an in home healthcare company that services hospice patients. This might be a good option for you if you plan on continuing your education. The other options can include retirement homes, schools, and even children’s homes. With these options, you can contact the county that supports these facilities and inquire. Many times they have you take a test, and with that test you can be easily accepted to work at a local or county funded institution. This leads to great income, and include benefits after you have obtained your licensure.

One of the growing fields in the job market is the medical field. Many think that the medical field is restricted or reserved for jobs that involve direct patient care, but that’s not the case. There are far more jobs out there than doctors, nurses, and staff technicians. These days, one of the biggest fields for jobs is in the medical administrative office. It’s a great field to get into and is something that an individual can be trained in.

These days, the hospitals are a big business, and so part of the administration field is dealing with the hospital from a financial and clerical perspective. Those working in the field would be expected to update hospital records, keep track of inventory, and check to make sure that patients were billed correctly for services incurred. These things are just a few of the things that this field offers.

For those looking to get into the field, universities, both online and on campus, offer programs for this field. Many times, the program is a year to two years. There are some colleges out there that will offer full bachelors degrees for a general expertise in the field, but specialized training may often come in the form of a certificate.

There are a lot of reasons why those looking to get into a field should consider studying this online. Many online schools offer a break from the regular schedule of the university. They offer their students a chance to learn in their own method and at their own hours. This gives students the flexibility to work. Many students are not comfortable with the traditional university, and therefore, they are better suited chasing their degree online.

Sites like elearners.com are great resources for finding the right online school. There are a wealth of schools all over the country that are offering the medical administrative degree from home. It’s a growing field that is well worth looking into.

So you are considering applying for Johns’ School of Medicine. You have read about it, and while it has been around for about six months, it is the cheapest school you can find for receiving your PhD. Is this school any good? Well, sometimes the answer is ridiculously obvious. When looking at schools, especially for medicine, you want to focus on schools that have a leading reputation in innovation and up to date techniques. In a day and age that is so technologically driven, it is important that you are able to keep with the times. For instance, is John’s School of Medicine going to be able to instruct you on the art of conducting angioplasty with using a knife, or curing an anurism with glue? Probably not. It is best to not short change yourself wtih medical school only because if the school is not able to teach you good techniques, you could end up doing more harm than good with patients that your are caring for.

Take a hard look at the schools you are considering. Do they have a good repuation? Are reputable doctors affiliated with the institution? Have there been any recents innovations come from the school? These are important questions because hospitals are going to need to know that you are highly qualified and have been trained well in order to help your with your residency requirements. A residency is a time that you will have to spend working at a hospital for free as a way of completing the last of your education. This is considered your practicum or dissertation for your PhD. It is very important that you have the tools necessary in order to complete this portion of your education. Attending a cut rate school is not going to be able to give you an edge in this capacity.

There are many benefits to working in the medical field. The largest one is the fact that you can work side by side with trained and skilled professionals in the medical industry. You can learn hands on what the products are that are available, what services the public can take advantage of, and even career advancement based on quality recommendations. The other fine benefit that you can receive is the day in day out experience and exposure to major advancements in the medical field. This means that if you choose to advance your career, you will be leaps and bounds ahead of your competition.

The satisfaction of knowing that you are in a respected field should be a benefit in and of itself, but really the paycheck does speak louder. The medical field can be quite lucrative, especially in certain niches. For instance, if you were to work with Oncology patients, or another type of specialty field, you will find that the pay rate is much higher for these types of careers in medicine. General practitioners tend to take on as many patients as possible so that they can have a steady revenue base, and supplement the costs of what insurance companies cannot or will not pay. This means that it is possible for a doctors office to not make very much money. Specialist, however, are much different. They tend to have a higher pay rate because their type of work is either limited or so special that insurance companies have no choice but to pay the bills, as the competition is simply not available. As an employee in these offices you can expect to earn on average 35% more than a traditional situation. This also applies to hospitals. If you area is deemed a Title I recipient area, do not expect higher pay. However, what you lose in pay you gain in priceless experience.

You are preparing to enter into the program of your dreams, nursing. You have waited for this moment your whole life, only now you find out that the cost of your program is going to be tens of thousands of dollars. This can create quite a dilemma as you try to reconcile the fact that you are finally accepted into the beginning of your dream job, but you are going to be broke for years as you try and pay back those student loans. Is there any relief? As a matter of fact there is. There are a number of resources that you can turn to for help, and some of the them are basic scholarships. There are thousands of dollars in scholarships each year that go unclaimed because no one has applied for them. There was a story of a college student that decided to apply to all the scholarships that were for amount under $500. The student applied to over 20 of these scholarships, and was awarded nearly 75% of them simply because there were no other applicants.

Now if are unsure about completing paperworkd for scholarships, consider visiting your financial aid office and investigating what you would need to do in order to qualify for Title I grant funds. This is awarded based on income, education history of you or your family, ethnicity, and if you have any minority or special instance such as reading disabilities. The other side to filing for Title I grant funds, meaning you never have to pay them back, is if you choose to work for an employer that is labeled for a Title I business, or servicing an area has been deemed Title I, you may qualify to have your loans forgiven based on the length of time your work in that place of business.

If you are considering a position with medicine, or in the medical field in general, but you are finding that programs are just not working within your schedule, you might find that you have some options. In fact, many programs that are offering certification in different areas in basic medical practice are available online. This means that while you are training to be a licensed practitioner of phlebotomy, or to be certificated as an LVN, or CNA, you can still maintain your current employment. This means that usually within a year or so, while remaining employed, you could be working on your licensure with an accredited online institution. Most of the institutions also have highly regarded reputations within the community and can assist with job placement after graduation.

If you crave the conventional brick and mortar school, there are also options for you to get your foot in the door for your new medical career. Aside from community colleges, which most offer classes for these types of licensure programs, and are usually very affordable, you can also investigate your local ROP program. Many school districts sponsor these programs because they were initially designed for high school students that were not planning on attending college, but still wanted to learn a specific trade or skill. These classes are usually sponsored by local businesses and they also open up for internship. This means that you can more than likely expect to find a job directly after completion of your program. These programs are typically held on the campus of a continuation high school, or vocational technology school. There is child care provided, and the costs tend to be minimal due to the community sponsorship provided. There might be a brief test conducted at the beginning to make sure that you are ready for such a program.

Becoming a Registered Nurse, or RN, is a very important task. In fact, it is a lot of hard work, and at the end of your nursing program, you will find that your education has just begum. Nurses are required to be very educated in the medical field, as they are many times the doctors eyes and ears wtih a patient they are caring for. There is a deep sense of responsibility, and if you are considering this field, it should not be considered lightly. The demand for nurses is great, and there will always be a need regardless of the economy, simply because people will need medical care even if they can or can not afford it. This means that nurses have great job security.

In order to become a nurse there are few paths that you can follow. You can enter into a two year program that will allow you to receive your RN certificate, and you can practice nursing in a hospital, through a primary medical office, or even through a help line that is funded by insurance companies. The other options that you can take is with a four year degree program. This will give you your RN certification, and Bachelors of Science degree, and you will be eligible to continue on with your education with either taking the next step for schooling as a Nurse Practitioner, or by taking the big step of passing the MCATS test for medical school. While being a nurse will not allow you to practice medicine, you can still learn a lot and become increasingly more prepared if you choose the next step in your career. By being exposed to more and more of the medical field you will be able to get a clear vision of the career path that you will desire to take.

Phlebotomy is a highly rewarding job. You are able to work with people that need your tender touch, and they are grateful to have found the right person for the job.

There are some any options for people to work in the medical field. If this is something that you are interested in, you will be pleased to find that you do not have to aim to be a doctor in order to participate in this exciting field. There are different levels of medical care staff, and some positions can be easily achieved through basic education. For some programs such as LVN, or CNA, the education requirement is nothing more than an 18 month training for certification. Phlebotomy is much quicker than that, and can be a fulfilling career. If you are not sure what these careers are, it is best to fully research all of the available medical profession certifications. Once done with that, simple complete an internet search on where those types of jobs have openings, and you will be amazed at the opportunities that are available.

Some of the institutions that have openings for all levels of medical staff include basic doctors offices. These types of positions require front office and back office support, and this would also entail that initial chart completion with taking blood pressure, and getting a basic idea of the complaint for the doctor when he arrives to see the patient. There are many types of doctors offices, and having skills in this area means that you could find placement in a variety of different specialties like pediatrics, oncology, or general medicine. Hospitals require a large amount of staffing in these areas because of the amount of patients that they deal with in a given day or week. This means that a simple six month program could mean a high quality, fulfilling, and well-paying job in a prestigious career. That is truly a career in the medical field that you can do, and your family will benefit from all of your hard work.

Finding a career that is right for you can be a challenging task. After all, how do you know exactly what will make you happy, and provide a lifestyle that you desire? The best advice is to research fields. By researching you will find out things about a certain field, and from there, be able to develop a plan of how to obtain the proper education, and also, develop a healthy expectation. One of the best research techniques is by simply interviewing people that are in the position that you desire to have. This will give you first hand information on whether or not you will like the job, and if it is something worth pursuing. Many people have done this, and as a result have been able to weed out trades or professions based on whether or not the people in those professions are claiming to be happy and/or thriving.

When considering ideas for a career, think about things that you are good at. For instance, are you good at technology, hands-on projects, or research? These three characteristics qualify from anything relating to computers to being a lawyer. Take a hard look at your unique likes and dislikes, and then write out a list of things that you are strongly interested in. There are many college counselors that can provide a skills and characteristics test, and based on the result help you find a career that your talents best fit. From that list, go and interview. This is the best start. Chances are, you will find something that you like, or as life usually has it, something will catch your attention on accident, and you will find yourself in a position that you would have never considered under intentional planning. However, you will never know what your options are if you do not go out and investigate what professions are available, how to get into them, and what qualities are a good fit.

A lot of people want to do the kind of work that they love, but there are very few out there who do the work they love. Many people feel lost about what they would be good at. Don’t feel bad if this is you because you are truly not alone. The fact is that finding the work you love is not always easy on the surface. However, it is true that it’s easier to weed out the work that you don’t love. If you are smart and you are committed to the process than you can find the job you want just by doing a little thinking.

The first thing you need to determine is what is the one thing that is most important to you about a job. For many it’s the money. For others its a sense of fulfillment, then others believe it’s about helping others. You have to decide what matters for you. If it’s money than that is what you need to set your sights on and don’t think about the other stuff.

The next thing you need to do is figure out what types of things you really love to do. If you have really loved baseball, for instance, then you will want to see if you can get a job in that field. While it’s impossible for many to play baseball for a living, there is no reason why you couldn’t work as part of an organization.

Don’t limit yourself either. You can do anything. The point is that if it’s something you really want, or if the goal of it suits your needs then you need to try that out and do everything in your power to make that a career for you. Don’t be blinded for a minute by doubter or those who think what you want is silly. You have to do work you can be happy with. Don’t worry about what others think.

If you are thinking about a career in the medical field you should sincerely consider going to the pharmacy side of the world of medicine. There are many careers in the medical field that are expanding, but there is no part of the medical field that is growing as quickly as the pharmacy side. With universal health care becoming a staple of the world’s health view, it’s safe to say that people are going to be looking for more medical treatment. This is going to leave the door wide open for more pharmaceutical treatment.

There are two main careers for the pharmacy. There is a pharmacist and the pharmacy technician. The pharmacist requires not only four years of college but also pharmacy school. The standards are difficult to get in but once you do the pay can be quite large, especially if you are going to enter the retail side of the pharmacy industry.

The other option is to become a pharmacy technician. The pharmacy technician doesn’t make close to what a pharmacist makes but they do get compensated well for a position that doesn’t require a college degree. The responsibilities of a technician are to enter in prescriptions, assist in filling and dispensing the system. It may also assist in other inter pharmacy tasks.

The basic need of the pharmacist is to make sure that the medication being ordered is safe for the patient, that it is filled properly, and that it is sold to the correct people. They are also supposed to assist in taking care of counseling the patients and their needs. They pharmacist is there to answer questions and are there to assure patients who might be nervous about the medication they are taking.

The pharmacy side of the medical field is one that will continue to grow. You are best to get in on the ground floor. You’ll be happy that you did.

People tend to look at the medical profession as something bigger than they are capable of. They tend to see it as doctors and surgeons and nurses. They see it as a way to have to have specialized education that lasts years. Many people, especially if they are past the average college age, think that working in the medical profession is a pipe dream. They view it as unattainable. The reality is that maybe being a doctor would be hard to do later in life, but being a part of a growing medical field is easier to do and it’s something that people will be glad to be a part of. It’s not too late. There are exciting careers waiting and here are a few of them for the hopeful men and women.

There is the EMT, or emergency medical technician. These ladies and gentlemen assist the fire department and the police department on situations that might require medical assistance. It’s a rewarding job and one that is fast paced. It’s something where you can get on an ambulance after a certificate program, but become a paramedic after a year or so of schooling and testing.

There are also great jobs as ultra sound technicians. As more and more people are having babies, and as the market for the use of ultrasound grows there is an increased need for technicians. The advantages to being a tech, besides a very nice salary, is that many times you get to work loose hours and get to freelance your work out to a lot of different hospitals. You also get to do things for people like tell them about the condition of their baby and bring joy into their lives. It’s a very good thing to be a part of. It takes a couple years of schooling and once you are finished you’ll have training to keep you employed for a lifetime.

One you reach a certain age have certain responsibilities in life it is hard to change course. It is quite often very hard to find the time to do anything but work and take care of your children. So what happens when you decide you want to go back to school? What will you do if you decide that your career is a dead end and you want to follow your heart and get into a health related medical profession like myself? Is it possible to find the time to go back to school? How will you even find a school to attend? Here is some good news for you that I discovered when I was in your same position. I discovered that there are many choices for online education these days. These online courses and schools were also now very well respected and you could do everything from taking a course to getting a higher-education degree. There were schools that offered Associate degrees, Bachelor degrees, Master’s degrees, and even Doctorates.

I had no idea of all of the possibilities out there. When I first decided to pursue my higher education degree in the medical field, I went online to look for a nearby university. I needed to keep working so I thought I would find something close by with night classes. While researching, I stumbled upon educationforadults.com. I was amazed at all the information. It was simple to search for information as you could do it by subject, careers and level of degrees to name a few. I also discovered that there would be options for me to take courses online and that there were plenty of opportunities in the medical field. On top of that, the site also offered a huge amount of educational resources to help someone like me who had been out of school for years. And now I am enjoying a new career in the Health and Medical Services field and so glad I went online to get my degree.

Ever noticed in old movies where doctors hold out x-rays of patients on lighted screens and tell that they have cancer or worse a bullet lodges near the heart? If you have then you require no further introduction to the career of a radiologist. Radiologists specialize in visualizing the humand body inside out. Radiologists don’t just use X-rays. Other forms of internal visualizing techniques are used such as ultrasound, nuclear medicine, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging and positron emission tomography are the other types of internal imaging technologies. Radiologists aid in diagnosing numerous diseases much better than blood and urine tests can if only there is a noticeable internal change to the body. The radiologists also help in aided surgeries with the help of interventional radiology where images of the body guide the surgeon.

To become a radiologists, you have multiple options. It is possible to obtain an associate degree, or a certificate or even a bachelor’s degree in radiology from prestigious universities and even hospitals. A few states have a compulsory exam to be passed to get a license. The courses for radiologists are designed by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology. The programs will cover various sections such as patient care, medical terminology, principles of imaging, radiobiology, medical ethics and pathology. The job opportunities for experienced as well as fresh candidates is rising with each passing day. Hospitals are the major employers along with a new industry where radio scans are outsourced to far of locations to be analyzed by cheaper radiologists. The field of radiology is rapidly growing with each passing day and various technologies are finding their use in developing human treatments. This makes this a very happening and interesting field for anyone who wants to get into the medical field but does not want to get her hands dirty.

The profession of nursing can be compared to the work of a healing angel. After has cut, sewed and prescribed a medicine, it is the nurse who takes care of hundreds of patients like her own children. It is not a profession just for women; men too can be a part for this profession. Nurses give people medicine injections & etc. Nurses treat wounds and take care of the wounds. They also give emotional support to the family and patient by talking to them about the disease and explaining it. Nurses keep detailed records of patients by asking them about their symptoms.

There are different types of Nurses. Some nurses help doctors treat & examine the patients. They also keep an eye on patients for signs of sickness. Some nurses’ help in doing lab work to get the report of what is causing sickness in patients. They also teach patients how take care of themselves and their families. Nurses teach patients how to follow diets, exercises & how to follow doctor’s orders. Nurses can specialize in treating only a single type of patients or only on a type of disease or a problem. Few focus on helping doctors while surgery. Some work in I.C.U’s & emergency rooms. Nearly half of the nurses work in doctors’ offices, helping them with dressing a patients wound, give medicine & etc. Nurses working for doctors also do office work & help them out in labs. There are also a few on call nurses who care for a patient at the patient’s own home. These nurses provide the same care that is available at the hospital at the comfort of the patient’s home. A few nurses also assist in medical emergencies and are part of the ambulances. These nurses need to specialize in emergency procedures that will come handy to save lives on the way to a hospital.

When we talk of careers in the medical profession, it is important to understand that it comprises two different streams – clinical and non-clinical. While the clinical branch deals directly with patient care, the non-clinical branch is involved in the administration, sales and other crucial activities that take place behind the scenes. Even in the clinical field, there are either physicians or physical therapists and assistants. While the doctors draw the largest compensation, the PTAs are also in high demand. To become a doctor, one needs to enroll oneself to an intensive undergraduate and graduate program followed by practical experience. They also need to be certified by an established medical council or association to continue practice. Even to become a physical therapist, one has to go through a formal degree in the medical field although it is much shorter in comparison to that of a physician’s. They are responsible for therapy sessions of patients who have had some malfunction or inactivity in their limbs owing to accidents or paralysis.

The other important arena in the medical profession is that of a nurse. To become one, one has to acquire a degree and a Licensed Practical Nurse Certificate. It depends on the individual’s wish as to what program of nursing to go for. Nurses are in high demand and skilled ones go a long way in building an envious reputation after years of work experience. In certain backward places, they are treated by patients like an incarnation of the doctor or physician.

When it comes to a non-clinical career, a license is not mandatory but some strong certification is desired by most hospitals. Registered or Certified Medical Manager courses are available and they claim that there is a high demand for such certified managers to manage the health care services sector. From the low level administration to the managerial position, such non-clinical professionals play a crucial role.

With the global economy in a state of chaos, you may feel like going back to school and changing careers is the only option you have. But college is so expensive. While you have worked and worked and worked, you have only been able to save up a little bit of money for school. You know that if you could get your degree in nursing that your life would change, but nursing school seems so far out of your financial ability to pay for it that you just want to give up. While college and nursing school can be costly, you have more options available to you than you think.

First, as a nursing student, you can apply for and receive federal financial aide. This means that the government would give you money to help pay for nursing school. Depending on your ability to pay, the government may give you grants, scholarships, and loans with low interest rates. Some of these forms of financial aid do not need to be repaid. This means you get free money to go to nursing school! Also, your nursing school may offer work study programs through the local hospitals so that you can afford to attend this nursing school and get experience at the same time.

Secondly, you can do a quick internet search for private companies and groups who offer scholarships for a certain career field, ethnic minority, or interest. Maybe your family is Native American. You can search scholarships for Native Americans and see all of the groups offering free money for your ethnic group to attend school. See nursing school can be affordable if you take the time to research all of your options.
