The medical field can be a great place to seek a job, since it is consistently one of the fastest growing career paths in the United States. Those working in the medical profession often feel a great sense of accomplishment as they are able to provide patient benefits. Typically they will work directly with doctors, nurses, and other health care professionals within hospitals or private practice clinics. Since these offices are located just about everywhere, a person trained to work in health care will usually not have a problem finding a job.

Every person who is part of the health care team plays an integral role in patient care. From receptionists to medical assistants to nurses to physicians to those involved in the billing process, each will play a part in order to create the best experience. Over the next ten years, it is predicted that there will be 3 million new jobs in the field.

One great job possibility is a medical and coding consultant. These employees can be trained through technical schooling, which typically takes up to two years. There are additional certification programs that can be completed, which will often increase income potential. Some of these positions are done from home, so working parents might find this to be a great option. Others will work in a clinic setting, working directly with the doctors in order to ensure proper billing is completed.

Being a part of the health care experience is a rewarding place to work. Many people are foregoing other technical programs to become a member of a medical office team.

Clinical vs. Non Clinical Medical Careers

When we talk of careers in the medical profession, it is important to understand that it comprises two different streams – clinical and non-clinical. While the clinical branch deals directly with patient care, the non-clinical branch is involved in the administration, sales and other crucial activities that take place behind the scenes. Even in the clinical field, there are either physicians or physical therapists and assistants. While the doctors draw the largest compensation, the PTAs are also in high demand. To become a doctor, one needs to enroll oneself to an intensive undergraduate and graduate program followed by practical experience. They also need to be certified by an established medical council or association to continue practice. Even to become a physical therapist, one has to go through a formal degree in the medical field although it is much shorter in comparison to that of a physician’s. They are responsible for therapy sessions of patients who have had some malfunction or inactivity in their limbs owing to accidents or paralysis.

The other important arena in the medical profession is that of a nurse. To become one, one has to acquire a degree and a Licensed Practical Nurse Certificate. It depends on the individual’s wish as to what program of nursing to go for. Nurses are in high demand and skilled ones go a long way in building an envious reputation after years of work experience. In certain backward places, they are treated by patients like an incarnation of the doctor or physician.

When it comes to a non-clinical career, a license is not mandatory but some strong certification is desired by most hospitals. Registered or Certified Medical Manager courses are available and they claim that there is a high demand for such certified managers to manage the health care services sector. From the low level administration to the managerial position, such non-clinical professionals play a crucial role.
